Abstract

1,005,037. Cushioned insoles. SCHOLL MFG. CO. Ltd. Sept. 29, 1961 [Oct. 4, 1960], No. 35271/61. Heading A3B. A shoe comprises an outer sole 1 and heel 2 assembly, a middle sole 7 overlying the assembly, a layer of foam cushioning material 8 overlying the middle sole 7 and possessing a flexible covering 12 which has a marginal portion turned under the middle sole and secured beneath the middle sole to the middle sole and layer 8 by a layer of stitching 14 around and passing through the marginal portion of the cover 12 and foam layer 8 prevents lateral spreading of the foam layer 8. A filler may be added. The heel and sole assembly comprises a covered wooden heel wedge 3. Further foam layers 9, 10 as metatarsal and longitudinal arch supports respectively may be incorporated with foam layer 8, a thin shaped stiffener 11 being freely disposed between layers 10 and 8 to add rigidity to the longitudinal arch support. Rows of stitching 16, 15 circumscribe these further layers 9, 10 respectively. The shoe may be a sandal in which straps 17, 17alpha are connected to further straps 20, 21 by loops 19, the ends of the straps passing under mid-sole 7 and secured between this and the outsole assembly as at 18. A further adjustable strap 22 facilitates the retention of the sandal on the foot.
