Abstract

1,065,392. Boots &c. SCHOLL MFG. CO. Ltd. June 12, 1964 [June 14, 1963], No. 24563/64. Heading A3B. A corrective sandal comprises a sole, an adjustable strap device connected to the sole for restraining an intermediate part of the foot and a second adjustable strap device connected to the sole and defining an adjustable loop for the big toe, the straps holding the foot in an anatomically correct position when tightened on the wearer's foot. The sole consists of an outer sole (1) and an inner sole 2 secured together by adhesive and a line of stitching 4. The inner sole 2 is shaped to correspond to the plantar surface of the foot and has an arch support (11) secured to its underside. The inner sole 2 has slots through which the ends of the straps are passed to be anchored between the inner and outer soles. The rear of the foot is held in position by straps 19, 20 and the instep is held in position by a wide flap 22 to which is secured a strap 24. A strap 28 also passes freely over the flap 22 and is secured to a buckle 31 on a strap 32 which passes through a slot in the insole and can move freely along a channel (10) formed between the inner sole 2, outer sole (1) and spaces (89). The strap then passes through a slot to form a loop 33 for the big toe and is anchored at its end between the inner sole and outer sole. Tightening of the buckle 31 causes the instep to be held in its correct position and causes the loop to move the big toe to its correct position.
