[Class 110 (iii)] In a steam turbine installation comprising an extraction turbine a and an auxiliary turbine b such as might be added when highpressure boilers c are provided to modernize the plant, the steam supply to the auxiliary turbine b is regulated by the control mechanism of the extraction turbine. The admission valve e of this latter turbine, which receives the exhaust of the H.P. turbine b, is normally fully open or is held in an adjusted position by a hand wheel h, and the interstage valve p is controlled by a speed governor f and an extractionpressure governor g. This control mechanism is linked by a hydraulic system l, m, k, to the admission valve i of the H.P. turbine b which is thereby regulated. At excess speeds or extraction pressures the valve e is closed by a sleeve q in the governing linkage. A safety governor s protects the turbine b. The hydraulic connection may be replaced by mechanical or electrical apparatus. The original boilers t may be used when the boilers c are cut out.
