[Class 51 (i)] The exhaust steam from the blast pipe 5 of a locomotive may be diverted from the smoke box through a by-pass pipe 4 to the atmosphere or to a receptacle under the control of a valve 7 in the by-pass pipe which is operated by the steam distributing valve gear of the engine or other regulator of the steam supplied to the engine.
