Abstract

524,129. Turbine plant. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 23, 1939, No. 2302. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1938. [Class 110 (iii)] In a plant using high temperature and high pressure steam, the H.P. turbine 12 is connected to the generator 10 by a conduit 11 in which there are no control valves. In the conduit 14 which takes the exhaust to the L.P. turbine 15 is arranged a regulating valve 16 controlled by a speed governor 20. This valve influences the performance of both turbines. The turbines drive generators 21, 22, connected to a common main 23. If the turbine 12 should over-speed, a governor 24 trips a latch 25a so that a valve 25 in the exhaust pipe 14 is closed and this turbine is choked and stopped. The turbine 15 may then be supplied with boiler steam through a conduit 26. Auxiliary fluid, such as water may be supplied by a pipe 28 having a valve 29 controlled by a temperature-responsive device 30.
