Abstract

389,912. Governing steam turbines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and POCHOBRADSKY, B., Goodwood, Lansdown Road, Sidcup, Kent. Nov. 26, 1931, No. 32811. [Classes 57 and 110 (iii).] The supply of steam to a turbine is regulated, at least over that part of the governing range in which small quantities are used, by passing it through at least two throttle valves in series. In Fig. 1 the supply from the inlet 2 through the steam chest 7 to the connection 10 for the main nozzles is regulated by two valves 3, 8 in series. These valves are controlled by a governor 24 which sets the servo-motor 18 of the valve 8 and also, by a linkage 44, 46, 49 connected to the piston of the servo-motor, the servo-motor 20 of the valve 3. The same linkage also controls the servo-motor 19 which opens a valve 9 which, when necessary, admits steam to a chamber 11 connected to the overload nozzles. The pilot valves of the servomotors 19, 20 are arranged within the pistons of the motors, and they are positioned to secure the desired relative time of opening. The valve 3 may be used as a screw-down stop valve, and an emergency governor may be provided.
