Abstract
418,816. Heaters for air and fuel. AICHER, A. A., 72, Beaconsfield Road, Blackheath, London. Feb. 1, 1933, No. 3112. [Class 7 (iii).] To enable heavy fuel to be used in a carburetter, the air and the fuel are proheated by drawing the fuel to the carburetter around a number of tubes contained in a casing, the said tubes each containing a concentric tube which extends through the casing and through which passes the exhaust from the engine while air is drawn into the carburetter through the thin annular space between the tubes. The heater comprises a nest of about fifty inner tubes c carried by plates g, each of these tubes being surrounded by a slightly larger tube b, the tubes b being carried by plates d, e. The casing consists of superposed annular members k<1>, h, a, k<2> of which k<1>, k<2> form the inlet and outlet for the exhaust. Air enters through slots s and after passing between the tubes b, c leaves by the outlet m. Fuel enters at p, fills the space between the casing a and tubes b and is drawn to the carburetter through the outlet o. The air is stated to receive heat at a rate roughly proportional to its velocity.
