Abstract

418,810. Thermal switches. WOLF, 0., 47, Antwerpenerstrasse, Berlin. May 30, 1934, No. 16137. [Class 38 (v).] A thermally operated short time switch comprises a contact 15 which is moved into engagement with a fixed contact 17 by the bending of a bimetallic strip 4, held in position by a latch 23, and after a short time interval released by the return movement of the strip. The strip 4 is heated by a winding 3 and an auxiliary coil 2 wound on a rod of steatite, the circuit to these being completed through contacts 6, 12 by depression of a push button, not shown. This heating causes the strip to move to the left thereby breaking the heating circuit at 6, 12, but the heating windings still give out heat to the strip which continues to bend thereby moving the lever 8 to close the contacts 15, 17 as described. An arm 28 on the end of the strip 4 also moves away from an adjustable screw 27 on the pivoted latch 23 allowing this to engage the end of the lever 8. The strip then begins to cool and eventually the arm 28 trips the latch 23 and the contacts 6, 12 are reclosed ready for the next operation of the push button.
