Abstract
188,131. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Sept. 5, 1921. Automa.tic circuit-breakers, which may be employed for controlling the duration of energization of an X-ray tube and consequently to time an X-ray exposure, comprise a thermally-released switch in the supply circuit consisting of a comcompensated thermal strip heated by the supply current so that after an adjustable interval of time it bends sufficiently to release a spring-controlled contact-arm to break the circuit. As shown in Fig. 1, applied to this purpose, the circuit-breaker is mounted on a base and enclosed within a casing to give it an appreciable thermal capacity and consists of a contact arm 10, 12 normally held in contact with the fixed contact 13 by the thermal strip 15 against the action of the spring 14. The strip is mounted on a pivoted block 18 which carries also a second thermal strip 20 which compensates for variations of ambient temperature. The initial position of the latch strip 15 in relation to the end of the contact member may be adjusted by rotating a ram 12 by means of a handle 24 which carries an external pointer 25 indicating the time interval after which the switch will be tripped. It is reset by pressing the button 28 which engages the projection 29 from the contact-member.
