Abstract

197,106. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). March 1, 1922. Thermal switches with contact reinforced elecmagnetically. The thermostatic strip 10, on reaching a predetermined temperature, due for example to the current through a heating coil 18, makes contact at 12 with the armature 13 of an electromagnet 14 and so completes a circuit through the winding of the electromagnet 14 which attracts its armature 13 and reinforces contact. The above circuit may also include a circuit breaker 15 for breaking the main circuit to the heating coil 18. The strip 10 then cools down for a period of time determined by an adjustable stop 21, after which contact at 12 is broken and a spring 22 attached to the armature 13 ensures a quick break.
