Abstract

417,344. Steam pumps. DAVIS, H. H., 2, Woodstock Gardens, Goodmayes, Essex, and JOHNSON & CO., Ltd., S. H., Carpenters Road, Stratford, London. May 5, 1933, No. 13177. [Classes 122 (ii) and 122 (iii).] In a pump of the kind described in Specification 398,684, [Group XXVIII], the main valve 15 is controlled by a combined fluid actuated and mechanical valve gear, and cushioning of the piston 5 at the ends of the stroke is effected, on the up-stroke, by air supplied through ports 4 situated at a distance from the top of the cylinder and, on the down-stroke, by exhaust steam cushioned by the main piston overrunning separate exhaust ports 3 spaced from the cylinder ends. The piston-rod 6 lifts the weight, and through tappets actuates an auxiliary slide valve arranged by the side of the main valve. The main valve 15 controls separate admission and exhaust ports 2, 3 at the bottom of the main cylinder, and the auxiliary slide valve controls separate admission and exhaust passages leading to the ends of the auxiliary cylinders housing the heads of the piston 14 which actuates the main valve. The piston 14 overruns the separate auxiliary exhaust ports and effects the cushioning of the main valvo.
