Abstract

499,216. Two-stroke cycle compound engines; valves. TOTH, C. J. July 19, 1937, No. 19970. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] Combustion products from the cylinder Ah pass to a receiver R from which, on the opening of the valve P, they enter the space Q and act on the lower side of the stepped piston, being finally exhausted through the valve E. Air induced through the valve Ka is compressed in the annular pump-chamber I and transferred to the high-pressure combustion chamber Ah by way of the valve Ke and reservoir G. Slide valves H, P, Fig. 2, operated from the shaft O may control the transfer from the receiver to the low-pressure stage, the evacuation of the latter, and the admission of air to the combustion chamber.
