Abstract
129,219. Kilburn, B. E. D., (Sulzer FrÞres Soc. Anon.). Jan. 28, 1919. Starting.-Compressed air from the passage e is admitted to the cylinder at f through a beatvalve a, and the exhaust is controlled by a pistonvalve g. The valve g leaves the cylinder open to the atmosphere at i during the earlier part of the compression strode, thus reducing the compression pressure. The two valves a, g are worked by the same cam l. During the compression stroke, the part AF of the cam raises the valve g to close the port i, and at the beginning of the next stroke, the part FE of the cam raises the valve further so as to open the beat valve and admit compressed air to the cylinder when the stems m, n of the valves are in contact with one another. The part EK of the cam corresponds to the power stroke, both valves being closed, and the part KA allows the piston valve to open for the discharge of air from the cylinder.
