[Class 135] [Also in Group XXVII] The cylinder compression ratio of an internalcombustion engine is adjusted by moving auxiliary pistons in the cylinder heads through an electrically-controlled servomotor. Theauxiliary pistons are moved by rotation of nuts 6 through.the reciprocation of a rack 7 connected to a piston 13<1> which is actuated by pressure fluid supplied by an engine-operated pump 38, or a spring 17. The suction valve 43 of the pump, or a drain valve 41 in the pipe line, are operated electrically through solenoids 44, 42, when contacts 23 or 24 close the respective circuits. These contacts are pivoted to a plate 19, reciprocating with the piston 131, and loaded by springs 29, 30 attached to a slide 28 reciprocated by a piston 14<1>, which is actuated by suction in the induction pipe, or explosion pressure in the combustion chamber, stops 32, 34 restricting relative movement. A pedal 51, which opens the valve 41 at starting, and a master switch 47 are provided.
