Abstract

416,841. Gun mountings; brakes. VICKERS (AVIATION), Ltd., and WALLIS, B. N., Byfleet Road, Weybridge, Surrey. March 24, 1933, No. 28849/32. [Class 92 (i).] An aircraft gun mounting, having upper and lower parallel tracks a, b of similar shape around which run rollers c, d on standards e for an arm g carrying the gun, has the rollers slidable in the standards and controlled by brakes applied by means which force the brakes against the rollers and the rollers against the tracks. The mechanism for withdrawing the brakes therefore acts to relieve the pressure on the rollers to facilitate easy training of the mounting. The upper and lower spring- pressed brake blocks f are simultaneously operated by a two-part link f<7>, f<17> one end of which is connected to a Bowden wire f<14> the spaced points of the other end being connected to the brake blocks by rods f<5>, f". The arrangement is such that the lever operates one brake block by rocking about the point of attachment to the other brake block. Each member c<3> carrying a ,brake block is free to slide and turn in a carrier member c<6>, adjustable by a screw in the end of a standard to permit of retraction of the rollers when fitting them between the tracks. An adjustable seat i is connected by parallel-motion links to the standards as described in Specification 406,753.
