Abstract

383,369. Brakes. SKERRETT, H. N., 24, Temple Row, Birmingham.-(Timken- Detroit Axle Co. ; 100, Clark Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) Oct. 8, 1931, No. 27928. [Class 103 (i).] A brake comprises two pairs of brake shoes, a lever arm operating each pair adapted to be operated simultaneously by a brake cylinder and piston and manual operating means adapted to operate one of the lever arms independently of the other lever arm and the fluid pressure. Two pairs of quadrantal shoes 7 mounted in the same plane, the shoes of one pair alternating with those of the other, are actuated by cams 9 and levers 11, 12. The levers are actuated in opposite directions by a fluid-pressure cylinder 14 connected to one lever and a fluid-pressure piston 15, Fig. 6, connected to the other lever by means of a yoke and a plug 16 sliding in the piston which allows the lever 12 to be actuated alone by a manually operated rod 35. A spring 13 between the levers 11, 12 releases the brakes.
