Abstract

[Also in Group XXXIV] In a motor cycle and side car combination the side car wheel is provided with a hydraulically or pneumatically operated brake which is coupled with the rear wheel brake of the motor cycle. As shown the rear wheel 1 of the cycle has its brake 9 operated from a pedal 3 through links 5, 6, 8. Between the links 6, 8 is arranged a cylinder 7, the link 8 being rigidly connected to the cylinder and the link 6 to a rod 12 carrying a piston 14 and a seal 15. Actuation of the pedal 3 to apply the brake 9 causes the piston 14 to move to the right in Fig. 2, compressing oil within a space 18. Connected to the cylinder 7 is a branch 20 to which is connected a spring urged valve body 23. A conduit 11 can be connected to the branch 20, thereby moving the body 23 from its seat and allowing pressure in the space 18 to be communicated by the conduit 11 to a hydraulically operated brake 10 on the side car wheel 2. Disconnection of the side car from the cycle is accompanied by disconnection of the conduit from the branch 20. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the invention is applied to a cycle having a hydraulically operated brake on the rear wheel.
