329,407. Jackson, M. B. Feb. 26, 1929. Fluid-pressure.-A brake held out of action by fluid pressure comprises manually operable means holding the brake out of action when the fluid-pressure is inoperative which are released when the brake lever is moved to apply the brake. The brake is applied by a spring 9 bearing on the brake piston 5 which is held in the inoperative position by fluid pressure admitted by a port 11. The brake lever 17 is held by a spring 19 so as to maintain a relief valve 13 on its seat by means of a spring 14. Movement of the lever 17 to compress the spring 19 releases the pressure on the spring 14 and allows pressure to escape from the brake cylinder 1 and the brakes to be applied by the spring 9. A manually operated lever 25 pivoted at 26 and bearing on a collar 8 on the piston rod 6 maintains the brake inoperative when the fluid pressure is not available. The lever is maintained in this position by an arm 27 pivoted to the lever and engaging a projection 29 on the lever 17 until the lever 17 is operated to apply the brakes when this manual means is released.
