Abstract

326,677. Nichols, S. F. April 2, 1929. Fluid - pressure. - A brake release valve adapted to bleed air from an auxiliary reservoir and thus release the brake comprises a valve 12, Fig. 2, adapted to close a discharge passage 15 from the reservoir 9, and the valve is opened manually and retained open by a pneumatic latch. The pneumatic latch comprises a piston 23 operated by pressure air from the brake cylinder to force a ball 21 into a groove 20 in the stem 19 of the valve 12. The piston 23 may be substituted by a thin disc and a diaphragm. The manual valve operating means comprises a yoke, notches in which co-operate with fulcrum pins on each side of the valve stem so that when an operating rod connected to either arm of the yoke is operated the valve is depressed.
