Abstract

526,026. Aircraft controls. PHILLIPS & POWIS AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and FENNER, R. J. Feb. 1, 1939, No. 3444. [Class 4] An aircraft rudder-bar, comprising a structure which is deformable to afford adjustment without affecting the associated controls which are connected with the pivot about which the whole structure swings when in use, is resiliently urged towards one extreme position of adjustment, means being provided for selectively locking it in any of a number of positions. Arms 15, 16 pivoted about a pillar 5 are connected by links 21, 22 to a collar 9 slidable along a tube 6 rigid with the pillar 5. Pedal brackets 17, 18 are pivoted on the arms 15, 16 and are maintained parallel to one anotherduring adjustment by links 19, 20. The collar- 9 is urged in the direction towards the pilot by a spring or a rubber band within the tube 6- but by pressing on the pedals it can be moved in the opposite direction. It is locked in any position by a spring bolt engaging holes 8 in the tube and controlled by a Bowden cable 24. The cable is connected to a lever 25 which may be mounted on a lever for adjusting the pilot's seat and serves also for locking that lever, or separate locking levers may be provided.
