Abstract
454,638. Controlling motor vehicles. STAINFORTH, G. H., Royal Aircraft Establishment, South Farnborough, Hampshire. April 15, 1935, No. 11571. [Class 79 (v)] The accelerator pedal may be arrested at any selected position by a device which is adjustable during travel and is provided with resilient means permitting further movement of the pedal under abnormally-heavy foot pressure. In the construction shown, the accelerator pedal 1 is operated by a plate 2 hinged at 3 and connected by a wire or cable 6, resilient member 11, and Bowden cable 7 to a hand lever 8 on the dash-board 9. Thus, by setting the hand lever the plate 2 and the accelerator pedal 1 can be stopped at any desired position, but the driver can depress the accelerator pedal further if required by using more pressure and extending the spring 11. Instead of the arrangement shown, a resilient stop may be provided between the pedal 1 and the throttle 14.
