Abstract
415,710. R÷ntgen-ray tubes. BANCROFT, F. E., 19, Delaine Road, Withington, Manchester, ALLIBONE, T. E., Senlac, Norman Road, Sale, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Feb. 28, 1933, No. 6107. [Class 39 (i).] A Coolidge tube has a rigid tubular metal windowed head-portion containing at one end the anticathode and secured at the other end to the axially aligned insulating envelope, the remote end of which is closed by an end plate carrying the cathode support in cantilever fashion, and at least one of the joints between these three envelope portions is readily dismountable. The tube is mounted on a rigid support so that the head-portion is supported at the end remote from the anticathode and on the side of the support remote from the headportion is. mounted the evacuating pump, which is connected by the evacuating conduit to the head-portion, the whole arrangement being such that the tube and pump can be raised or lowered by movement of the support. In one form, a tube of the kind described in Specification 408,614 is mounted upon a shutter 1 which is adapted to be raised and lowered by means of cables, pulleys and balance weights. An oil backing pump 2, driven by a motor 3 and mounted with it on a platform 4 through springs 5, which platform is mounted on the rear end 6 of the head portion of the tube, is connected to a diffusion pump of the kind described in Specification 346,293, [Group XXVIII], which is in turn connected to a similar higher-speed pump 10 having a conduit 11 communicating with the X-ray tube interior. The invention is described with reference to a tube having a cathode filament mounting as described in Specification 415,712, a rotatable target mounting as described in Specification 415,711, an annular X-ray window co-operating with the rotatable target as described in Specification 415,722, a rotatable X-ray shield co-operating with the window as described in Specification 415,723 and strengthening means for the X-ray window as described in Specification 415,724. Specification 413,698, [Group XI], also is referred to.
