Abstract
415,723. R÷ntgen-ray tubes. BANCROFT, F. E., 19, Delaine Road, Withington, Manchester, ALLIBONE, T. E., Senlac, Norman Road, Sale, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Feb. 28, 1933, No. 17804 /34. Divided out of 415,710. [Class 39 (i).] A Coolidge tube capable of transmitting X- rays, or having an X-ray window extending around the whole or the major portion of the periphery of the tube and having an anti-cathode adapted to project X-rays through the whole of the window, has an apertured annular X-ray shield, to which an applicator can be attached, rotatably mounted on the tube so as to permit the beam to emerge at different radial angles about the X-ray tube axis. The invention is described with reference to a tube of the kind described in Specifications 408,614 and 415,710, and having a rotatable anti-cathode as described in Specification 415,722 an X-ray window as described in Specification 415,724, a cathode mounting as described in Specification 415,712 and a target mounting as described in Specification 415,711. As shown, an apertured annular shield 15 having an applicator 16 is rotatably mounted on the tube around an annular window 20. The shield is adjusted by means of a hand-wheel 17, which corresponds to a hand-wheel 18 rotating the anticathode 21. An annular member 80 surrounds the end-member 43 of the tube and is rotatable with respect to it by means of pegs 81. The member 80 has a double flange overlapping the shield 15 and a covering member 82, and is provided with pins 83 co-operating with brake shoes 85 pivoted on pins 86. The pins 86 and similar pins 90 carry anti-friction rollers 88, 89 engaging within the shield 15. The pins 86 also project through slots 86<a> in the member 80 and are secured therein by split pins. Anticlockwise rotation as shown in Fig. 4 of the member 80 locks the shield 15 in position. Alternatively, the brake-shoes can be operated by a spreading cam rotated by a lever. A weight 95 on the shield 15 balances the applicator 16. The member 93 surrounding the shield 15 has an aperture 94 and a slot 97 for the insertion of a shutter or filter. Specification 346,293, [Group XXVIII], also is referred to.
