Abstract

1,190,470. X-ray tubes; electrode materials. TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 24 Dec., 1968 [28 Dec., 1967], No. 61228/68. Heading H1D. A rotating anode X-ray tube comprises a cathode arrangement 8, disposed within the tube envelope 1 opposite a target plate 5, which emits electrons from a number of points corresponding to different focal planes which are at different radial positions on the target, e.g. at 11 and 12, wherein one of the focal planes of the target is made of tungsten or an alloy thereof, and another focal plane is made of one or more of molybdenum, rhodium, silver, palladium or alloys mainly consisting thereof. As shown, inner tungsten focal plane 12 and outer molybdenum focal plane 11 lie on the same gentle slope of the target plate 5, but the inner plane may be more sharply inclined than the outer or vice versa, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown); alternatively, the target plate may be concave towards the cathode, Fig. 7 (not shown). The cathode arrangements 8 may comprise two or more independently operable filaments of the same or different focal lengths, or it may be a single cathode which is moved radially. A beryllium window in the envelope may be employed in soft X-ray radiography, for which the molybdenum &c. focal plane is used.
