Abstract
415,469. Mercury arc rectifiers. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., Hebburn-on- Tyne, and TAYLOUR, H. H., 15, Portland Terrace, Jesmond, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Feb. 27, 1933, No. 5883. [Class 39 (i).] Deionizing surfaces are so shaped that the deionizing effect varies inversely with the distance of the neighbouring part of the anode from the cathode so as to compensate for variations in the length of the arc path to obtain substantially uniform current density over the anode surface. An anode A has the form of a flattened paraboloid and is housed within the shield C. Radial metal plates D are secured within the shield by lugs D<2> and the widths of the plates decrease progressively as shown. In a modification, the plates are curved so that the distance between adjacent plates is constant and they may be provided with internal cooling ducts.
