Abstract
415,454. Two - stroke engines. PESCARA, R. P., 115, Rue de la Tour, Paris. Feb. 22, 1933, No. 5440. Convention date, Feb. 23, 1932. [Class 7 (ii).] An internal-combustion air compressor comprises pairs of opposed free pistons 1, 2 and 3, 4 actuated by combustion in the cylinder 5 and compressing air in the cylinders 6, 7 the pistons of one pair being connected with those of the other pair so that the outward stroke of one pair effects the inward stroke of the other. Fig. 1 shows the outer pistons connected by rods 15 and the inner pistons by a rod 11 ; racks on these rods engage toothed wheels carried on an equalizing lever. In modifications, the pairs of pistons may be disposed side by side. The dimensions of the cylinders and the amount of clearance may be determined so that the energy of the return stroke due to the clearance cushion and the combustion in the other cylinder diminishes as the length of stroke increases towards the greatest value permissible and increases as the stroke diminishes to its least value. An odd number of piston pairs may be provided. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also means for regulating the feed of fuel and the supply of air from the compressor to a turbine or other engine which forms the subject-matter of Specification 415,477. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
