Abstract
413,132. Forging bolts. FRIEDMAN, J. H., Tiffin, Ohio, U.S.A. Aug. 15, 1933, No. 22811. [Class 83 (iv).] In a bolt-heading machine, the heading dies 36, 34 which operate in turn on the bolt, are adjustably mounted on the slide 1 so that they can be set to make a head accurately concentric with the bolt shank. The tool carrier base 8 oscillates around its shank 7 (fitted in the slide 1) between adjustable stops 3, 4, from the position of Fig. 8 to that of Fig. 10. The tool holder 24 is separated from its base by an intermediate plate 18. The working position of the die 36 is determined by the setting of the screw 3 against which the abutment 10 rests, after oscillation of the carrier about its shank 7, the screw 3 being screwed out or in to raise or lower the position of the die 36. Similarly the abutment screw 5 of the carrier abutment 10 determines the up or down position of the die 34. To adjust laterally the die 36, the bolts 27 are slackened and the stop screws 39 and 40 are adjusted to rotate the tool holder 24 about its pivot stud 32. If wear prevents the die 34 being adjusted as above, it can be reset on its centre by loosening the nuts 27 and then adjusting one or other of the screws 37, 38 which rotates the intermediate plate 18 about the stud 12, and, relative to the bolts 15, 16 to raise or lower the die 34. The die 34 can also be moved to right or left by loosening the nut 24<1> on screw 14, turning the screwed sleeve 22 to slide the plate 18 on the surface of the head 8.
