442,984. Apparatus for making bolts; forging; rolling ; squirting. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London. - (National Machinery Co. ; Tiffin, Ohio, U.S.A.) Aug. 18, 1934, No. 10148 /35. Divided out of 436,179. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Relates to making bolts or screws in apparatus of the type described in Specification 436,179 and consists in means for adjusting the roll threading platens of said apparatus to allow for wear of the extrusion dies. In the abovementioned machine all the necessary metal working operations are performed in sequence on the blanks, which are presented in the same order throughout. This orderly sequence allows of the same age hardening for each and a gradual adjustment may be made for the progressive wear of the dies. The blanks a, Fig. 1, are extruded in dies 1, 2, Fig. 2, to form a shank part b which is operated on as shown in Fig. 3 to form a head part and for further operation on the shank. The upset head is trimmed to polygonal shape in the dies shown in Fig. 4, the blank assuming the form d. After a pointing operation, the blanks are platen threaded as shown in Fig. 6, the wear of the extruding dies being compensated by screw and wedge adjustment 13, 14.
