Abstract

407,255. Forging bolts. CLOUSE, W. L., Tiffin, Ohio, U.S.A. Aug. 12, 1933, No. 22567. [Class 83 (iv).] A bolt-heading machine of the multiple stroke type has the heading dies 14,- 15 carried by a plate 12 which is pivotally mounted on the heading slide 3 and is swung in the intervals between the strokes of the slide to bring the dies into operative position in succession opposite the blank B. The die carrying plate 12 has a stem 13 engaging a bore 10 in a square &c. block 9 received in a recess 8 in the slide 3, a wedge 11 behind the block enabling it to be adjusted. Plate 12 is swung between limiting positions determined by a projection 16 and stops 17, 18 by means of a rocking lever 21 mounted on a shaft 22 and carrying a block 20 engaging a slot 19 in the plate ; an extension 23 of lever 21 is connected by universal joints and link 24 to an arm 25 of a pivoted member 26 rocked by levers 28 and a cam 31 on a shaft 34 driven by gearing 35 from a countershaft 6 geared to the driving shaft 5.
