Abstract
387,880. Forging-machines. CLOUSE, W. L., Tiffin, Ohio, U.S.A. April 26, 1932, No. 11980. [Class 83 (iv).] Forging bolts &c. ; shearing adjuncts. - A forging - machine has means for severing a blank and conveying it to be operated upon, comprising a shearing element and a pivotally mounted gripper carried by an oscillating member. An arm 15 on a shaft 14 carries a shearing tool 16 adjustably held in a slot 17 and co-operating with a stationary member 19 through which the work is fed. Arms 21, 22 on the shaft carry rollers 23, 24 engaging cams 11, 12 respectively, on a shaft 10, a cam 13 on this shaft engaging a roller 30 on an arm 29 connected to a link 28, which actuates a gripper 27 pivoted on the arm 15. In the sequence of operations, stock S, from which blanks are to be sheared and headed, is fed through the die 19, gripped by the member 27, sheared and carried opposite a die 20 by actuation of the arm 15, and headed by a reciprocating die, the gripper 27 being released and the arm 15 swung back to its initial position immediately the die engages the work. A simplified modification of this form is described. In a further modification, the gripper 47, Fig. 11, actuated by a cam 51 is pivoted on a reciprocating slide 45 actuated by a cam 49.
