Abstract
524,179. Forging bolts &c. GREENWOOD & BATLEY, Ltd., and MACLAGAN. J. C. M. Jan. 24, 1939, No. 2392. [Class 83 (iv)] A cold forging machine for heading bolts &c. in which the operation requires two stages, has multiple dies so that a completely headed blank is produced at each stroke of the header slide which carries a central coning punch 7 with finishing punches 6, 8 one on each side. Two dies 10, 11 are mounted in a slide 12 operated by a rockshaft 15 driven through a two to one gear from the shaft 4. The dies have ejector pins 16 operated through links 19 and levers 17 from a cylindrical slide 20 operated by the shaft 4. A rack 22 oscillates the cylindrical slide so that the eccentric pin 20<SP>x</SP> actuates the levers 17 alternately. A cut off slide 27 co-operates with a transfer finger not shown to supply blanks to that die which is opposite the punch 7. The dies 10, 11 receive blanks alternately that in the die 10 being finish headed at 6 and that in 11 at 8.
