419,837. Shaping-machines. McCALL, A. K., Parkinson Lane, Halifax, Yorkshire. Aug. 14, 1933, No. 22601. [Class 83 (iii).] In a shaping- machine having a horizontal ram a carrying a vertically adjustable toolholder t on its front face, the adjusting screw k is operated from a hand-wheel c<1> mounted on the side of the ram a and acting through a shaft c, spiral gears d, e, shaft f and bevel gears i to rotate a nut on the screw. The shaft c preferably carries a divided disc m to indicate the adjustment. To permit the use of a power feed the shaft c may carry a ratchet wheel n, Fig. 2, operated by a spring pawl r carried by a rocking lever o actuated at each stroke of the ram by a cam p. The pawl may be put out of action if the power feed is not required.
