Abstract
515,397. Grinding screw threads. SCHAURTE, W. T., and KAUFMANN, K. Feb. 25, 1938, Nos. 5963 and 5964. Void: Convention dates, Feb. 27, 1937, and May:22, 1937. [Class 60] In grinding screw threads the wheel has a concave form S<1>, Fig. 4, so that when the wheel is set to the helix angle a perfect cylindrical thread is ground. The wheel may be dressed by a roller R<1> mounted on the opposite side of the work and brought into and out of action by compound slides and stops. The wheel may be dressed by a diamond b, Fig. 9, on a slide under the contact of an abutment m and cam n which may have the shape shown in dotted lines at v or may be a section of a cylinder mounted on the angularly adjustable member n<1>. The diamond is indexed for successive grooves at e, and is fed in by a lever under centre of steps s.
