[Class 83 (iii)] A screw-cutting tap or die having a number of cutting teeth 10 disposed on lands k ... n with equal clearances C on the same side of all the teeth of any one land k, Fig. 2, and the same clearance C on the opposite side of all the teeth of the succeeding land l, has full cutting teeth which are identical in cross section and spacing and which have one flat end cutting edge, one side cutting edge and one clearance side. Thus successive teeth operating along a helical' line a a, engage the work W on opposite sides of the thread groove. Square or acme threads may be cut by similar tools. The clearance C may be provided during the original formation of the teeth or by a supplementary grinding or relieving operation.
