Abstract

985,173. Boring bars. S. B. HANSSON. Feb. 28, 1964 [March 1, 1963], No. 8358/64. Heading B3C. A boring bar comprises a shaft 1, a cutter 2 carried in a slot 4 in the shaft, and two cones 13, 14 for centring the bar in bearing or like apertures to be bored. Cutter 2 is pivoted to the shaft at 3, and is urged against a wedge 6, by a spring 12. The cutting diameter of cutter 2 is adjusted by a screw 9, rotatably connected to a rod 7, which is attached to wedge 6. Cone 13, which is slidable on shaft 1, carries two nut segments 16, guided by jaws 17. The segments are urged apart by spring- loaded plungers 18, and are urged into screwthreaded engagements with shaft 1, by a cam ring 19. The latter has two arcuate slots through which are passed screws 22, to hold the ring and jaws together. Cone 14 has a pin 23 which slides in a groove 24 in the shaft, and is frictionally held on the shaft by a washer 28. The washer is urged into contact with the shaft by a spring 29, compressed by a cam ring 31, which co-operates with a ball 30. Shaft 1 is rotated by a crank 35.
