411,153. Cooling charge. POMEROY. L. E. W., Welford Lodge, Lillington Road, Leamington Spa, and McEVOY, M. A., 11, Dexter Street, Derby. Nov. 30, 1932, No. 33903. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii).] In a supercharged engine the charge is cooled after leaving the supercharger 5 in a pipe 7 having, wound thereon, a spiral of wire, as described in Specification 271,122, [Class 64 (iii)]; by this means the cooling of the charge varies in accordance with the speed of the vehicle to which the engine is attached. As shown relative amounts of cold air, and hot air form a muff on the exhaust pipe through pipes 14, 13 respectively, are controlled by a valve 12 in conjunction with the main throttle valve of the carburetter 4. Alternatively the valve 12 may be controlled by a thermal device on the pipe 6 between the supercharger and the cooler.
