Abstract

464,348. Cooling charge. ELLOR, J. E. Oct. 24, 1935, No. 29396. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] On an aircraft, a cooler E, for the engine charge supplied by a pump D, is mounted in the engine cowling within a duct which expands from the entrance K<1>, where it receives air from the slip-stream, and contracts again to the exit K<2>, the size of which may be adjusted by movement of a flap K<3>, either manually, or automatically by a thermal device ; the entrance K<1> may also be adjustable. The delivery pipe F, from the pump to the cooler, diverges, and the exit pipe H, from the cooler to the engine, converges, both pipes being provided with partitions set at angles of about 7‹ to one another, effectually to change kinetic energy in the charge to pressure energy. A flame trap, J, consisting of a number of aluminium slats, is provided in the pipe H.
