Abstract
405,164. Equalizing load on generators; systems for transmitting mechanical power. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland. May 25, 1933, No. 16108. Convention date, June 4, 1932. [Class 38 (iv).] In a supply system such as a Dieselelectric vehicle, the load on the generator is equalised by the provision of an auxiliary source such as a storage battery 5, the output of the generator 2 being automatically regulated in accordance with its speed by apparatus 7 so that its output is maintained constant, the auxiliary source thus supplying only the peak load. The auxiliary source may be an auxiliary unregulated generator or a rectifier fed from A.C. supply. When a storage battery is used the excess of the generator output over the load is used to charge the battery. A relay 10 under the control of the driver is provided to disconnect the battery 10 and the regulating device 7 when the vehicle is on a level or running down-hill in order that the generator voltage may be allowed to rise above that permissible for changing, e.g. if an increased vehicle speed is desired. The speed of the motors 4 is controlled by a rheostat 6.
