Abstract
403,539. Steam turbine plant. FAIRWEATHER, H. G. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(Allmanna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget; Vasteras, Sweden.) Feb. 27, 1933, No. 5960. [Class 110 (iii).] In a turbine plant comprising one or more high-pressure single-rotation radial-flow turbines 11, 10 and a low-pressure double rotation turbine 1, 2, each turbine is arranged to be balanced in itself with respect to axial thrust. The single-rotation turbines each comprise two overhung discs 14, 15, and 12, 13 arranged back-to-back, the dimensions being such that end-thrust is balanced. Pipes 23, 24, 26, 27, 29 are arranged so that steam may be passed through the units in series, and valved byepasses 35, 34 enable one or both of the end turbines to be cut out. Fig. 2 shows a modified arrangement of single-rotation turbine having two back-to-back bladed discs 41, 42. Interconnected valves 55, 61 are arranged so that, for overloads, steam may be passed to the wheels at intermediate points 58, 62, the inner blading then being ineffective. Packing is provided at 51, 52.
