Abstract
389,683. Steam turbines. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET, Võsteras, Sweden. June 2, 1932, No. 15695. Convention date, June 4, 1931. [Class 110 (iii).] In a radial-flow turbine two or more axiallv displaced blade-carrying discs are mounted in the overhung manner on the end of a shaft and co-operate with other discs to form steam passages, at least two of which are bladed. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, in which there are oppositely-rotating shafts 1, 2, the overhung disc 3 on the shaft 1 carries a second disc 6, both discs being bladed for outward flow, and the shaft 2 carries two bladed discs 4, 5 co-operating with the discs 3, 6. The inwardflow return passage 24 may be bladed as shown at 31, Fig. 2. The main steam supply is by a port 20 from a chamber 7, but auxiliary steam may be supplied to intermediate stages by passages 23, 25, 27. These passages may also be used for extraction purposes. In Fig. 1 end-thrust balance may be secured by varying the sizes of the discs of the labyrinths 13, 14 or by leading leakage steam from the highpressure labyrinth 13 to the low-pressure labyrinth 14 by a pipe 52. In Fig. 2, end-thrust is balanced by fitting a cap 35 to the first blade ring on the rotor disc 3, and leading steam of intermediate pressure to the low pressure labyrinth 14 by passages 36. Fig. 3 shows an outward-inward flow turbine in which only one blade system rotates. The shaft 40 carries two overhung bladed discs 43, 44, and leakage may be prevented by disc labyrinth packing 47 or by shaft packing 48.
