Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for; connected to source of high or low pressure.-In a turbine having an overload chamber 6 from which highpressure steam may be supplied through a passage 7 to an intermediate point in the blade system 4, a, connection is established, by means of a passage 16 inside the turbine casing, between the chamber 6 and an intermediate point in the labyrinth shaft packing, in order to return leakage steam to the blade system when working without overload. In order to prevent entrance of air when working at low load, steam may be supplied to the packing by a pipe 17. The labyrinth packing comprises rings 14, 12 on the stator and rotor carrying radial discs 13, 14 provided with intermeshing axial fins 15.
