Abstract

Connected to source of high or low pressure.- In packings for turbines &c., outer spaces a<1>, b<1>, c<1> are supplied with steam at a pressure slightly above atmospheric, while inner spaces a<2>, b', c<2> are connected to a point at a pressure below atmospheric. In a turbine comprising high, intermediate and low-pressure stages A, B, C, the outer spaces a<1>, b<1>, c<1> are connected by piping d to a reservoir R supplied by a pipe p. The supply may be varied automatically according to the load. The inner spaces a<2>, b<2>, c<2> are connected by piping e to a point at a pressure below atmospheric. In the case of the low-pressure stage b the connection to the spaces c<2> may be omitted. In the case of the high-pressure stage A and the intermediate pressure stage B, further pockets a<3>, b<3> may he connected to points at higher pressure. The supply to the different spaces may be regulated by valves and the outer spaces may be provided with pressure gauges.
