Abstract
282,677. Skoda Works, Plzen. Dec. 21, 1926, [Convention date]. Casings.-The valve boxes and casing of a turbine are mounted to permit free expansion due to heat. The rear main bearing 2 is fixed to the base and the front main bearing 3 is fixed to the casing and is free to slide on the base. The valves are contained in two boxes 5 which are secured to the front main bearing and are supported at their outer ends on plane surfaces. The innermost valves 6, 9 supply steam to the upper half of the turbine and are used alone for the lightest loads. Valves 7, 10 are brought in next and supply steam to the lower half of the turbine. The outermost valves, of which there may be more than two, are used for overloads and supply steam to a later stage of the turbine.
