[Classes 110 (iii) and 122 (v)] In order to maintain a constant temperature in the radial labyrinth packing of a radial-flow elastic-fluid turbine provided with bleeder openings 23, the packing is supplied with motive fluid having a higher pressure and temperature than the bleeding fluid at a place 25 located outside and separated from the openings 23 by not more than 20 per cent and preferably about 5 per cent, of the total number of packing elements or by a screen or the like. The motive fluid is taken from a suitable point 29 in the shaft packing.
