Abstract

222,866. Erste Brunner Maschinen- Fabriks-Ges. Oct. 5, 1923, [Convention date]. Stuffing - boxes, substitutes for.-In packing of the kind described in Specification 192,514, the rigid ribs e are arranged immediately behind the elastic rings c in the direction of fluid flow so that fluid pressure narrows down the clearance space g between the ribs and rings. In a modification the elastic rings are on the casing and the rigid ribs on the shaft. In an alternative construction, the rigid ribs on the casing are slightly inclined in a direction opposite to that of the rings so that on deformation their tip clearance is reduced, or, alternatively, the ribs e may be formed as elastic rings.
