[Class 110 (iii).] In a plant comprising a driven machine such as an electric generator 1 and radial flow turbines 6, 7 overhung on the end of its shaft, the unbladed side of the high pressure wheel is subjected to steam pressure so as to balance axial thrust. As shown, the wheel 6 has an axial flow section 9 and an inward flow section 11, and the low pressure wheel has an outward flow section 12, and an axial flow section 8.
