Abstract
403,169. Drying timber. CROSSLE, W. G., Collins House, Collins Street, Melbourne, GRANT, G. C. M., Alexandria, both in Victoria, Australia. Aug. 2, 1932, No. 21662. [Class 34 (ii).] A kiln for drying lumber and other material comprises a unit having an air inlet and an air outlet, one or more impellers, and means associated with the air inlet and other means associated with the air outlet, both of which means are adapted to be adjustably extended into the path of recirculation of the air stream for utilising the kinetic energy of the stream to draw air into or to expel air from the unit. In the form shown, the kiln 7 for the materials is combined with a unit 8 containing a fan 9, heating means 11, air inlet 12, outlet 13 and valves 14 connected and operable through levers 15. When the levers are in the upper position, part of the circulating air from the fan passes through the venturi tube 16 formed by the wall and a valve 14, thereby inducing a current of air through the inlet 12. At the same time a portion of the used air is passed out through the outlet 13. When the levers are pressed down the valves are closed and the venturi no longer functions. In another form, two fans are employed and the valves are situated between them.
