Casings.-A fan installation for ventilation and other purposes has a stationary outer casing 1 with two angularly displaced connections 7 either of which acts as an inlet while the other acts as an outlet. The fan impeller 18 is contained in the volute casing 3 which is housed in one compartmemt of the casing 1 and is attached to the cylindrical intake member 4. Diametrically opposed lateral openings are made in the member 4 to correspond with the spaces between the walls 10, 11, 12 of the casing. The casing 3 and member 4 can be rotated by means of a handle. With the parts in the position shown in Fig. 1, air enters the upper connection 7 through the upper opening 8 to the fan and is discharged through the lower opening 7. When the parts are rotated until the fan discharge part 14 registers with the upper connection 7, air enters the lower connection and passes through the lower opening 8 to the fan. In the modified form shown in Fig. 7, the connections 7 are disposed at 180‹ to each other, and the intake member 4 has one opening equal to half the circumference. The fan may thus be operated as a suction fan or as a delivery fan.
