Abstract
401,552. Universal joints. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Constructions Electriques de France ; 38, Avenue Kleber, Paris.) Feb. 28, 1933, No. 6139. Convention date, Feb. 29, 1932. [Classes 80 (ii) and 80 (iii).] In a transmission coupling between the motor and wheels of an electric locomotive, of the type wherein the motor is rigidly secured to a frame suspended from the driven wheels and drives a transmitting member coupled to an intermediate member by pins and links, the intermediate member being coupled to the wheel, some or all of the pin joints are of cylindrical form comprising inner and outer sleeves secured to the pin and link respectively and separated by a sleeve of resilient material such as rubber. In one arrangement the transmitting member and the wheel are coupled to compression boxes 32, mounted on the intermediate member 24, by links 30, 36 respectively. Various other linkage arrangements are described. U.S.A. Specification 1,752,138 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a coupling in which the transmitting member is coupled directly to the wheel by helical springs. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
