Abstract
187,578. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., (Assignees of Templin, E. W.). Oct. 19, 1921, [Convention date]. Axles and axle structures; radiusrods and torque-rods. - In motor vehicles having two driving axles, the driving-axle casings are connected together by pairs of torque rods which are themselves linked together to allow limited movement of each axle relative to the other. The axle casings 2, Fig. 12 (Cancelled) have arms 10 fixed thereto, a torque rod 8 being pivoted at 12 to each cf the arms. The rods are connected together by pairs of parallel links 23, Fig. 3, each link having an adjustable ball-and-socket connection 15 with each rod so that the axle casings can move relatively to each other in any direction except that of rotation about their axles. Some or all of the ball joints 15 may be resiliently mounted. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, each torque rod 10 is pivoted at 11 to a sleeve 7 mounted on one axle casing, and is connected by a ball-and-socket joint 14a to a link 12 pivoted in a sleeve mounted on the other axle casing, one of the sleeves being fixed on its axle casing while the other is revoluble thereon. Modifications are described in which (a) the torque rods are formed as laminated springs, and (b) the rods are connected together by locse links. Specifications 182,485 and 201,705 are referred to. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), comprises also the arrangement of radius rods shown in Fig. 14 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted, but forms the subject-matter of Specification 193,427.
